There are a handful of Great Black-backed Gull records from January through March, all of which are from the Williamsport Dam except for a 2017 record at the other most expected spot to find them, Rose Valley Lake. These records are mostly mixed in with flocks of Ring-billed and Herring Gulls. Despite the low number of records, it wouldn't be surprising if the species is a yearly visitor to Lycoming County in extremely small numbers, making them easy to miss. Great Black-backed Gull is the largest gull species in the world. Interestingly, the smallest gull species in the world, Little Gull, also turns up in Lycoming County occasionally.
