Lycoming County Summer 2025 Summary
In total, 157 species were reported in Lycoming County during the summer.
Notable Observations

Waterfowl
A female Ring-necked Duck that was present at Rose Valley Lake at the beginning of the summer season continued until at least 6/14 (BB, et al.). Similarly, a Lesser Scaup that was present at Rose Valley Lake at the beginning of summer continued through at least 7/27 (BB, et al.). Two Buffleheads were also present at Rose Valley Lake through at least 7/11 (BB, et al.).
Cranes and Rails
At least two juvenile Soras were present at a small wetland along Cresent Hill Rd. on 7/5 (BB, Bob). Two Sandhill Cranes were in a field near Muncy on 7/3 (LW), and continued the following day (BB, BoB).
Shorebirds
White-rumped Sandpipers, which were first reported in May, continued to be reported in Antes Fort through 6/11, with up to five individuals reported (m.obs.).
Gulls & Terns
An Arctic Tern was at Rose Valley Lake on 6/13 (SS, DR, DF, WL, DB, et al.), providing the first Lycoming County record of that species.
Herons
A pair of Least Bitterns was present at the Robert Porter Allen Natural Area 6/2 (BB), with additional observations during June.
Vireos
A singing White-eyed Vireo was at SGL 252 on 6/1 (BB).
Chats
A Yellow-breasted Chat was singing and doing display flights at SGL 252 on 6/1 (BB). A singing one was also present at SGL 75 on 6/15 (BB, DeB, BoB), and continued at the same location 6/26 (DR, JD).
