The smallest of our Accipiter hawks (and the smallest hawk in North America), the Sharp-shinned Hawk is fairly common year-round and a regular nesting species in Lycoming County. The species is seen near and in wooded areas and is most reliably seen migrating in September and October. They pose an ID challenge with the similar Cooper's Hawk, but with experience and a reasonable look, the two can be confidently separated.
