Purple Martins are reported in Lycoming County from early-April through late-August. In the eastern US, the species nests exclusively in human-provided boxes and gourds, typically in colonies. There were no known active colonies in the county during 2015 or 2016, but prior to that they had nested in the martin house at the county farm. Breeding colonies in a different area of the county became known to the birding community in 2017.
