Black-crowned Night-Heron is a very difficult species to find in Lycoming County, with only three known records. As the name would suggest, night-herons are mostly nocturnal, and commonly roost in trees or shrubs near water during the day. In Pennsylvania, the species is most common in the southeastern area of the state, and is more common than the state's other night-heron, the Yellow-crowned Night-Heron.

Black-crowned Night-Herons are probably somewhat regular visitors to southern Lycoming County in very small numbers, but their habits make them less conspicuous than many related species, leading to few records.
