Powys Wetlands

Overview

This wetland along Lycoming Creek Road consists of a cattail pond surrounded by a grassy area with a forested and brushy edge.

The Lycoming Audubon Society maintains nest boxes for wood ducks and mallards.

Route 15 runs right next to it, so there is significant highway noise.

Directions

From Trout Run, head south on Lycoming Creek Road for 3 miles. Turn right onto St Michaels Rd, pass under the highway then make the immediate left into the large gravel PennDot storage area.

Species of Note

Virginia Rail

In the past rails have been found here, but difficult to find in recent years, although there were a few sightings in 2016.
