N. White Deer Ridge Hawk Watch

Overview

This was the traditional hawk watching site in the county. It is located at a power line cut on top of N. White Deer Ridge and has views to the north and south. Surrounding land is state forest. Look to the east in fall and to the west in spring. Bring a chair if you want to sit. There is no good rock pile to sit on. There is occasional foot traffic as people stop to enjoy the view. It is obviously a party destination at night, but is generally a safe area during the day.

Directions

From Route 15 in South Williamsport take Sulphur Springs Road (554) heading south into the mountain. At the sharp U-turn there is a gravel parking area at the end of Skyline Drive. Walk along Skyline Drive a few hundred yards to the power line cut. At some times of year the gate is open for hunting season and you can drive in and park at the power line cut.
