LycoBirds is beginning a new initiative of releasing seasonal summaries for notable bird sightings in Lycoming County. The reports attempt to line up with migration, breeding and wintering, and will cover the date ranges indicated below:

  • Spring: March-May
  • Summer: June and July
  • Fall: August-November
  • Winter: December-February

Fall 2016 is the first season we have compiled data for, and is our first report to be released. This report features the results of the Winter Hummingbird Contest, information on the 3 state review list species observed during the fall, and detailed information about the uncommon and notable sightings of the fall.

Our goal with these reports is to build up a detailed archive for bird sightings in the county, and to provide more context than eBird data can give. Some of the observations come from birders who are not eBirders, so our report captures that data as well. Being focused to only Lycoming County and being web-based (instead of being a print publication) gives us the ability to provide more detail than the Pennsylvania Birds magazine can, even though that publication does contain a summary for each county in Pennsylvania.

We also have plans for other types of reports, so keep an eye out for those in the future.
